The faculty, comprising the School of Law and the School of Business, Economics and Society, unites an exceptionally broad academic spectrum. Around 30 degree programs offer diverse opportunities for specialization and the development of a personal profile. Academic excellence is combined with interdisciplinarity, internationality, and a strong practical orientation.
School of Law
A law degree at the School of Law of FAU fosters analytical thinking, a deep understanding of legal structures, and strong evaluative and decision-making skills. These qualifications open up a wide range of career opportunities and prepare students for responsible roles across diverse societal sectors.
The School maintains a deliberately personal atmosphere, resisting the trend toward anonymous mass universities. An open and respectful interaction between faculty and students shapes the academic environment. The light-filled library provides ideal conditions for focused study, set within a campus with short distances: lecture halls, seminar rooms, and the library are all centrally located in the city, surrounded by shops, restaurants, housing options, and inviting green spaces.
Teaching combines academic rigor with a strong practical focus. Key skills such as rhetoric, negotiation management, and communication are firmly embedded in the curriculum. Since 2003, the Institut für Anwaltsrecht und Anwaltspraxis has complemented the program by providing a direct bridge to the professional world of law. Study plans facilitate the start of the program through introductory tutorials while also offering structured and efficient preparation for the state examination, supported by the Erlangen Exam Course.
Situated within the Nuremberg metropolitan region, the campus offers extensive links to legal practice. Various courts, administrative authorities, and the local bar provide early exposure to the professional environment of a dynamic urban area—far beyond theoretical study alone.
School of Business, Economics and Society
The School of Business, Economics and Society (FAU WiSo) combines forward-looking orientation, innovative strength, and an international perspective. Over 6,000 students from numerous countries benefit from excellent study conditions and an education that integrates scientific methodology, interdisciplinarity, and strong practical relevance. Its 22 degree programs cover a wide range of topics relevant to business and society and are specifically designed to prepare students for demanding roles in business, organizations, administration, and research.
The School is among the most prestigious institutions in the German-speaking world and, as an established partner of the Nuremberg metropolitan region, is closely integrated into regional business and research structures. Intensive collaborations with local and national companies and institutions create numerous opportunities for practice-oriented projects, research partnerships, and early career orientation. These collaborations provide valuable insights into real-world professional environments and promote the development of professional skills already during the course of study.
