Study profile

Friedrich-Alexander University Erlangen-Nuremberg has a long-standing academic tradition and today combines historical roots with modern openness. Its Schools of Law and Business, Economics and Society are distinguished by excellent research, vibrant internationality, and close connections to business, society, and global academic networks.

School of Law

Law has been taught in Erlangen since the founding of the university in 1743. Since then, numerous distinguished jurists have emerged from the university, leaving a lasting impact on the field. Building on this long tradition, the School of Law today presents itself as modern and forward-looking, while remaining deeply rooted in its Franconian home—a city that has developed over recent decades into a cosmopolitan center of innovation without losing its Franconian charm.

The School is part of an international academic network from which all members benefit. Student and faculty exchanges, joint teaching and research projects with international partners, global working groups, and a diverse range of language courses are firmly integrated into everyday academic life. Thanks to the university’s broad range of programs, students also have the opportunity to look beyond the field of law and gain insight into the approaches and methods of other disciplines.

School of Business, Economics and Society

The guiding principle, “Master theory to shine in practice” is consistently implemented at the School of Business, Economics and Society. Internationally leading research, a strong practical focus, global networking, and systematic quality management define its profile. These strengths are also reflected in national rankings, where the School regularly achieves excellent positions, particularly in business administration and economics.

The WiSo Campus is located in the heart of Nuremberg — one of Germany’s most important economic centers. Its central location provides immediate access to companies, service providers, social institutions, and think tanks. This creates a dynamic exchange between academic theory and real-world professional environments, making the study experience particularly tangible and practice-oriented.

This close integration of science and business also reflects the School’s core philosophy: practical relevance transforms an academic think tank into a sought-after partner for leading companies — and its students and graduates into highly desired young professionals who bring fresh ideas, drive innovation, and actively shape the future.
